Most of the poverty is concentrated in the northern areas of Nigeria, for example, the state of Sokoto, which has a poverty rate at about 86.4 percent. The term absolute poverty is â€Å"the number of th ose who can only afford the bare essentials such as food, shelter, and clothing† (IFDA). The percentage of people living in absolute poverty, in the already poor areas of Nigeria in 2004 was 54.7 percent, and as of 2012, the number had grown to 60.9 percent. This number is expected to continue rising. This trend in the country has startled many due to the fact that although the economy in Nigeria is growing, most Nigerians are just getting poorer. This fact alone shows that there are other factors involved, factors that are resulting in the disruption of the progress of Nigeria. The cause of poverty in Nigeria is a result of multiple factors that overlap and run deep within the history and culture of Nigeria, which makes it difficult for the cycle of poverty to stop, yet, by understanding some of the main causes of poverty in Nigeria, anthropologist can suggest ways in which poverty can be decreased. Analysts have reviewed the country in an attempt to figure out why Nigeria is getting poorer, and many have come to some basic
